Pride is an annual celebration of LGBTQ community. It is a global event in different cities around the world, an essential time not just for parties but also to fight for equality. It is about celebrating diversity and empowering LGBT+minorities and how far we have come as a society.
The first officially gay pride rally in UK was held in London on July 1, 1972. This year’s theme is “Jubilee” marking 50 years since Stonewall Riots on June 28, 1969, a series of demonstration by members of LGBT community protested against the police raid that began at Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich village neighborhood.
Pride in London have full of events for this month but the main attraction was the huge parade last Saturday, July 6. The event was free but those who had a great seat to see the parade paid £50.
My first pride was 2017 but this year over a million people flooded the streets of London for the 50th Pride annual event. I love Pride and what Pride represents. However, I could help but reflect on the events that had happened, a real inclusive and a fun place for everyone, sheer joy was felt where ever I went, people were amazing and friendly. From Oxford circus to the streets of Soho, the LGBTQ community stood strong and showed the world what the word Pride truly meant.
London is where the heart of Pride is, I wouldn’t be anywhere else!
